MEET Renée de Vink

Fine artist inspired by life in Malawi

"Together with my husband and two children we live since 2024 on a hill in Southern Malawi. To live in a new country, means there are so many new stories to tell. The colors, light, people, and the rhythm of everyday life keep finding their way into my work.

My work is a reflection of what I see and feel here: the contrasts, the warmth, the resilience, and the beauty hidden in the ordinary. Every piece I make is a small attempt to hold on to the emotion of a moment. Before it disappears.

What I make shifts between abstraction, expressive portraiture and nature. I believe art speaks directly to your heart. It invites you to pause from everyday life. To take a breath, enjoy the beauty of small things, and be moved by them.

If you see and feel it too, that means we're connected. And that's what I love most about art."

Artist's statement

My work is shaped by daily life in Malawi, where colour, rhythm and contrast are part of the everyday. Living here changed not only what I paint, but how I look and process. My paintings are guided by intuition rather than a fixed plan.

I work with painting and mixed media, often on found materials such as old book pages and magazines. These surfaces carry traces of time and use, adding quiet depth and texture to the work. Colour plays a central role. Not as decoration, but as emotion, movement and atmosphere.

Themes of presence, belonging and identity run through my work. Living between cultures has made me more attentive to small moments, gestures and moods. Rather than telling a clear story, I aim to create space for the viewer to bring their own feelings and memories into the painting.

Each work is an invitation to slow down, look closer, and feel before understanding.

BIO

Renée de Vink (1984, Rotterdam) is a Dutch fine art painter currently based in Malawi. Her practice centres on painting and mixed media, with a strong focus on colour and intuitive mark-making. The light, landscapes and daily rhythms of Malawi play a key role in shaping her visual language.

Working with limited materials has led her to paint on found surfaces such as old book pages, adding layers of history and tactility to her work. Her paintings balance figurative elements with abstraction and explore themes of presence, identity and belonging. Her work is collected internationally and reflects a quiet dialogue between place, material and inner experience.

Prints

We chose premium fine art paper to print on. The prints are produced using museum-quality giclée printing technology, delivering exceptional detail and color accuracy that showcases the artwork at its best. Each print is made on archival-grade paper, ensuring longevity and a timeless presentation.

  • The 230 gsm paper provides a substantial feel, enhancing the overall quality of the print.

  • The textured matte surface enhances depth without losing print clarity.

  • The wooden frames are handmade in Italy and come with premium plexiglass.

Framing

Handmade in Italy, our frames with premium plexiglass are crafted to the highest standards.

The frame measurements refer to the size of prints it fits. The actual frame size is slightly bigger depending on your selected frame profile and size.

Frames for A4 and A2 have a 1.5 cm width and depth. The 70x100 frame has a 2 cm width and depth.

Our frames come with user-friendly turning clips on the back making it easy to mount the print in the frame yourself. All our frames can be hung both vertically and horizontally.

Passe-partout size
Choosing a frame with passe-partout means the artwork will be slightly smaller than the frame size. The listed dimensions refer to the outer frame.
